Ahmedabad: An AMC team on Saturday raided a warehouse-cum-factory, Shivshambhu Dairy Products, on Naroda Road and seized 1,300kg of cream valued at Rs 3.90 lakh. It was suspected that palm oil and vegetable ghee were being mixed with pure cream to produce low-quality ghee. The unit was seized.
Additionally, 144kg of suspicious paneer was seized from Satnam Dairy Products in Nikol village, and 119kg from a paneer warehouse in Vastral.
Between March 23 and 29, the civic body inspected 454 food units across the city, issuing notices to 184 units for unhygienic conditions. A total of 386kg of inedible food and 372kg of inedible liquid were destroyed. In all, 145 TPC tests were conducted, and 209 food samples were collected from various units for laboratory testing. Eight units were sealed due to unhygienic conditions and lack of licences.
Dr Bhavin Joshi, additional health officer of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, said, “In Naroda, over a 1,000 kilograms of suspicious cream were seized from a newly established factory. In this case, milk powder, palm oil, and other types of vegetable ghee were added to increase the quantity. Such adulteration can harm health. Samples have been collected for further investigation.” The corporation collects food samples from various units, and cases are filed against those with non-compliant samples before the executing officer.
From 2011 to 2025, a total of 2,240 cases were filed, with 242 resolved, resulting in fines of Rs 77.62 lakh. From Jan to March 2025, 44 cases were filed, none resolved. In 2024, 71 cases were filed, none resolved. In 2023, 65 cases were filed, with one resolved, resulting in a Rs 1.50 lakh fine. Currently, 1,998 cases are pending.
