3 killed in kite-related accidents in Rajkot


Rajkot: Three persons — including a 10-year-old boy — were killed in kite-related accidents in the city on Uttarayan. Three deaths were also recorded in other parts of Saurashtra and Kutch.
A 28-year-old man named Prakash Sareriya suffered a fatal wound from a kite string while riding his motorcycle near Mango Market at Greenland Chowkdi. He was heading to Rajkot to celebrate Makar Sankranti. Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene, and B Division police station recorded an accidental death case. Sareriya, who ran a grocery shop and worked at a brick kiln in Bedla, was the younger of two siblings.
A 10-year-old boy named Kashyap Chandra died after falling off a terrace while flying a kite near Brahmanand Society at Ghanteshwar Park on Jamnagar Road. He was rushed to a private hospital but died during the night.
In the Mira Udyog Nagar area, Ayan Khan Pathan, 18, fell off the roof of the Protect Packaging factory while flying a kite. He was taken to Civil Hospital but did not survive. Thorala police station documented the incident. Pathan, originally from Uttar Pradesh, lived in the Jangleshwar area. He used to work as a labourer to support himself and his family.
At Odu village in Patdi taluka of Surendranagar, a 35-year-old man named Ishwar Thakor died after his throat was slit by a kite string.
At Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar district, a 14-year-old boy named Vijay Rabari was electrocuted by the electric fence of a farm while trying to retrieve a kite. His father, Rama Rabari, filed a complaint for culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the farmer, Chandu Bakori.
At Gandhidham in Kutch, a 10-month-old girl, Diyanshi Parmar, was killed when a roofing sheet gave way, causing her father — who was holding her in his arms — to fall.
