59 out of 96 shops in the shopping center are empty : 24 shops have been allotted to those affected by the demolition.
Surat : Many projects including vegetable market and shopping center have been built by the Surat Municipal Corporation without prior planning and are not being used. Similar is the condition of the shopping center built by the municipality at Bhestan. The municipality has constructed a shopping center at Bhestan and constructed 96 shops out of which 24 shops have been given to the demolition affected people and still 59 shops are empty as no one is ready to take them, now an action is going on to lease 30 shops of this shopping center until Bhestan police station is built in the coming days.
A shopping center has been built near the railway gate in Udhana Zone of Surat Municipality. The first and second floors are found in the shopping center built by the municipality. A total of 96 shops have been built in this shopping center. 24 shops have been allotted to the affected shopkeepers in the demolition work done in Udhana zone years ago. Apart from this, some of the shops are running municipal health centers, health and wellness centers. However, 48 shops on the first and second floors are still empty. Out of these empty shops, 8 shops were found on the first floor and 22 shops were found on the second floor, a total of 30 shops have been submitted to the Standing Committee for lease to the Police Department. A proposal has been submitted to the Standing Committee to rent the shop at an annual rate of five per cent of Jantri until the construction of Bhestan Police Station is completed.
