Ahmedabad: A 34-year-old woman on Friday registered a case of harassment against her husband and mother-in-law with Sola High Court police for alleged verbal and physical assaults for dowry.
The complainant said she met her husband in 2021, who was finalising his divorce from his then wife, and married him in 2022 in Thaltej. After marriage, she moved to live with him in Shastrinagar, Rajasthan.
According to the complaint, the couple soon started having heated arguments over petty issues. She alleged that her husband would borrow money from various people, and when she would question it, he would assault it. “My husband demanded money from my family, claiming that I hadn’t brought anything as dowry. When I refused, he threatened to throw me out of the house. Despite my father giving him money, my husband and mother-in-law continued to demand more dowry and would physically assault me when I refused.”
She has also said that her husband would come home drunk and assault her.
She stated that she moved back to Ahmedabad in Sep 2023, and the two accused allegedly assaulted her here too. In April 2024, he came home drunk and started an argument and the mother-in-law sided with him. Both verbally abused and physically assaulted her and asked her to leave the house. On Saturday, the woman finally filed a complaint. tnn
