Ahmedabad: A violent clash broke out between two caste groups during a wedding ceremony in Bhat village of Daskroi taluka on Monday evening, leaving at least five people injured. The incident occurred when a man from the Thakor community allegedly hit a Dalit woman with his motorcycle while she was performing garba as part of the celebrations. Following the incident, a brawl erupted between members of the Dalit and Thakor communities. According to Aslali police inspector N H Savseta, both groups began attacking each other using sticks, metal pipes and bricks. “Bricks from the construction site nearby were pelted by the groups,” Savseta said.Four members from the Thakor community suffered minor injuries, while three members from the Dalit community sustained grievous injuries. Police registered two separate complaints in the matter. One FIR was lodged by a member of the Dalit community under sections related to rioting, unlawful assembly, and causing grievous hurt under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Based on this complaint, 14 people were arrested.A counter complaint was filed by a member of the Thakor community. However, no arrests were made, Savseta said.Following the clash, police were deployed in Bhat village to maintain law and order and prevent further tension. Cops are keeping a close watch on the situation. An investigation is ongoing to identify all those involved and ensure peace in the area, Savseta said.
