Ahmedabad: A major burglary took place in Thaltej under the jurisdiction of Bodakdev police station, just 4km from the station premises.
The theft, which took place between the night of March 27 and the morning of March 28, resulted in the loss of gold, silver jewellery, and cash amounting to Rs 11.7 lakh.
Ishita Patel, a resident of Aditya Residency near Thaltej fire station, filed a complaint with Bodakdev police detailing the incident.
According to her complaint, she and her husband, Dhruv Patel, a musician, were asleep on the first floor of their house with their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Her mother-in-law was away in Saurashtra, and the ground floor was unoccupied at the time.
Upon waking up around 7am, Ishita discovered that the main entrance was blocked from the outside with plant pots.
Further inspection revealed that window grills of the ground floor bedroom had been broken by burglars to gain entry into the house.
The thieves forced open a wooden wardrobe, and stole an entire locker containing gold and silver ornaments, diamond-studded pieces, and Rs 5 lakh in cash.
The stolen gold jewellery included bangles, necklaces, bracelets and rings, collectively weighing over 300 grams. The estimated loss stands at Rs 6.7 lakh in jewellery and Rs 5 lakh in cash.
Bodakdev police registered a case of burglary and launched an investigation. The proximity of the crime scene to the police station raises concerns about security in the area.
