The incident occurred between 12.30pm and 1pm when Satpal, who was on his way to work at his family-run business, was hit by a Scorpio SUV with a Madhya Pradesh registration plate. According to eyewitness accounts, the driver of the Scorpio was allegedly driving recklessly, and fled abandoning the vehicle near the scene.
“Today, on April 13, 2025, my younger brother Ayush and I were at our Punjab Sports store at Vande Mataram Crossroads. Around 1pm, my younger brother Ayush called my father’s phone, and at that time, an unknown person picked up my father’s phone and said, ‘Your father has had an accident. You should hurry to Sola Civil Hospital’,” said Kataria’s son Saksham. Kataria was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival at approximately 12.40pm.
“The driver of the SUV car with a Madhya Pradesh registration number, was driving a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle in a careless manner and collided with my father’s motorcycle, causing severe injury to my father on his left leg at the ankle, leading to his death,” Saksham told police.
Bopal police, who have filed a case under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) and Motor Vehicles Act, are looking for the SUV driver.
