Ahmedabad: In the undergraduate admission process, 1,32,019 offers were issued after five rounds. As of June 23, only 43,164 students confirmed their admissions — about 32.70% of the total. The low confirmation rate reflects the dissatisfaction among students.In postgraduate admissions, 31,299 students out of 45,341 verified applicants in the first phase. Of these, 18,904 confirmed their admissions, marking a confirmation rate of 41.69%.Amid the ongoing admission process through the Gujarat Centralized Admission System (GCAS), students and political activists staged a protest on Monday at the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG) in Ahmedabad. The protest, led by NSUI members, was in response to widespread issues in the GCAS admission process. Protesters demanded that the govt immediately introduce an alternative admission system due to multiple irregularities. Police later detained several demonstrators.The core issues raised include errors in merit lists due to students mistakenly entering incorrect marks or board details. Activists claimed that in earlier systems, such details were auto-fetched from board records, minimising errors. Now, students entering Gujarat Board instead of CBSE — or vice versa — face last-minute rejections due to institutional seat limitations. In some cases, students who input wrong marks are assigned top colleges, only to later be disqualified when the errors are discovered.“Students have been allocated 8–10 colleges, none of which align with their preferences, leading many to not confirm admissions. Meanwhile, deserving students are being denied seats in those very same colleges. This mismatch has caused widespread confusion and frustration,” said a student leader.
