Ahmedabad: He left to fetch tea for his infant daughter and never returned home. Umang Dantani, 24, was allegedly abducted and murdered by a group of unidentified assailants in the early hours of Thursday. The incident occurred near Sharadaben Hospital in Saraspur, and the victim’s body was found hours later near Vora Roza water tank.The victim worked in the catering business and lived with his family in Devipujakvas, Saraspur. According to the FIR filed with Sheharkotda police by his wife, Sunita Dantani, Umang left home around 1am to buy tea and biscuits for their child. A while later, her sister-in-law Manisha Dantani informed her that Umang had been assaulted by a group of men near a pan parlour opposite the hospital and was forcibly taken away in a rickshaw.The family immediately began searching the area, including Chamanpura and Itvada, but could not trace him. Around 10am, they received a call from Umang’s niece, saying that his body had been found near the boundary wall of the Vora Roza water tank. His body bore injuries to the head, face, and upper torso, suggesting he was assaulted with a blunt weapon. Police sent the body for postmortem to Civil Hospital.Witness Sarvansinh Thakor, who runs an egg stall near the hospital, told the family he saw five to six unidentified men sitting near the pan parlour when Umang arrived. An argument broke out, followed by a violent scuffle, after which the group forced him into a rickshaw and fled.The complainant demanded strict against the attackers. Sheherkotda police have registered a case of abduction and murder and begun an investigation.
