Rajkot: The Madhapar police in Kutch district on Saturday arrested three men, including the key accused, for allegedly running a fake foreign job racket through a bogus travel agency. The gang is believed to have duped dozens of job seekers by promising overseas employment opportunities. The main accused, Anand alias Lalo Kotak (33), was apprehended from a hotel in Ahmedabad. His accomplices — Daya Rajput (54), a labourer, and Akbar Ali (48), involved in construction and driving — were also arrested. A fourth accused, Dinesh Bhadra, remains absconding. The action came after a complaint was filed on May 22 by Hasmukh Suthar (43), a trader, who alleged that Kotak duped him through a firm. The agency had advertised jobs for labourers and carpenters in Seychelles, Ethiopia and New Zealand via newspaper ads.According to the FIR, registered under sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Suthar and 11 others were defrauded of around Rs 2.49 lakh, collected under the pretext of visa processing, medical checks, tickets and agent fees.Investigation officer VG Parmar said that following the complaint, Kotak’s office in Madhapar was found shut and his phone switched off. Police tracked him through technical surveillance and arrested him from Bhagyoday Hotel in Ahmedabad.During questioning, Kotak reportedly confessed to launching the scam about 18 months ago from Bhuj, where the gang had set up an office and placed ads to lure job seekers.Police said the accused collected over Rs 65 lakh from multiple victims and shared the amount among themselves. So far, 65 people have come forward, and officials anticipate more complaints in the coming days. The bank accounts of the arrested men have been frozen, and criminal conspiracy charges have been added to the case.
