Ahmedabad: Rain dominated the Sunday mood, with the city recording 28mm by 8pm. The day began with a thick cloud cover as rain gods sent down showers ranging from light drizzles to downpours. Several areas, especially in the west and along SG Road, received moderate to heavy rainfall, with some spots getting waterlogged. Vatva recorded a substantial 62mm of rainfall. Kotarpur was drenched with 56.5mm, while Chandkheda and Ramol had recorded 36mm and 30mm respectively by 8pm. According to India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast, the city may experience light to moderate rain on Monday, with occasional spells of heavy rain. Across Gujarat, 199 out of 252 talukas received at least 1mm of rain. Dolvan in Tapi district recorded 157mm of rain, followed by 129mm in Subir (Dang), 125mm in Bardoli (Surat), 113mm in Palsana (Surat), and 104mm in Valabhipur (Bhavnagar), among others. In all, 30 talukas received 50mm or more of rain by 8pm, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC).The state, by Sunday, received 44% of its seasonal rainfall, with south Gujarat receiving 47% of the season’s total rain so far. Out of 252 talukas, eight received more than 1,000mm of rainfall, 42 talukas received 501 to 1,000mm, and 122 talukas received 251 to 500mm.Both the monsoon trough and offshore trough are providing the state with ample rain, the IMD forecast indicates. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in parts of Navsari and Valsad on Monday, whereas parts of Surat, Dang, Tapi, Amreli, and Bhavnagar may experience heavy rain. Other districts may get light to moderate showers. On Tuesday, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad.
