The Indian government has extended the residence permit of exiled Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen on Tuesday (Oct 22), according to Indian news agency ANI.
This comes a day after Nasreen took to social media X, and appealed to Home Minister Amit Shah to let her stay in the country, where she has been residing for the last 20 years.
In her post, the author expressed her love for India, saying that the Ministry of Home Affairs has not been extending her residence permit since July 2022.

Who is Taslima Nasreen?
Exiled Bangladeshi author Nasreen has been living in exile since 1994 after she was forced to leave Bangladesh.
She was later criticised by Islamist fundamentalists for her articles on communalism and women’s equality in Bangladesh. Dhaka government also banned some of her books, including her breakthrough novel “Lajja” and her autobiography “Amar Meyebela”.
When she was forced to leave Bangladesh, she spent the next 10 years in exile in Sweden, Germany, France, and the US.
Later, between 2004 and 2007, she stayed in Kolkata. However, later, she had to leave the city following violent protests by radical Muslims demanding her to leave India.
Then, she was shifted to Delhi for three months and later had to leave India in 2008 for the US.
However, after a few years, she returned back to India.
