Houthis say they fired hypersonic ballistic rocket at Israeli air base

Yemen’s Houthis targeted Israel’s southern Nevatim Airbase with a hypersonic ballistic rocket called “Palestine 2” and downed early on Friday (Nov 8) a US MQ-9 Reaper in the airspace of the Yemeni province of al-Jawf, the group’s military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said.

Speaking during a pro-Palestinian protest in Sanaa, Sarea said the group will continue their targeted operations and that they will continue imposing their naval blockade on Israel and would target any ships belonging to, linked to, or heading to Israel, until Israel’s military operations in Gaza and Lebanon stop.

The speech comes less than a week after the Iran-aligned Houthis said they were intensifying their attacks to support Hamas and Hezbollah in their resistance against Israeli actions in the region.

Since November, the Houthis have carried out nearly 100 attacks on ships crossing the Red Sea, a critical route for global trade linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. They have sunk two vessels, seized another and killed at least four seafarers.
