Ahmedabad: Students of schools run by the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board will be provided with shoes and socks by the civic body from the next session. This decision was approved by the standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday.
The civic body will provide shoes and socks to 1.7 lakh students enrolled in AMC-run schools. The new term will also see the introduction of milk distribution to these schoolchildren.
The committee allocated Rs 2.5 crore towards nutritional supplements for the children. The Ahmedabad Municipal School Board manages 450 schools with a total enrolment of 1.7 lakh students.
AMC standing committee chairman Devang Dani noted that the schools primarily serve students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Acknowledging that many lack proper footwear, the committee earmarked Rs 5 crore to ensure each pupil gets shoes and socks.
During the Thursday meeting, discussions were also held on the construction status of the Pallav Junction flyover in Naranpura. The project is scheduled for completion by April 2025.
