Ahmedabad: Amid heightened global concerns regarding human metapneumovirus (HMPV), due to its symptoms and high infection rates, a hospital in Chandkheda was issued a notice by the civic body for withholding information about an HMPV patient for 10 days.
The virus was detected in a two-month-old child at Orange Neonatal and Paediatric Hospital on Dec 26, 2024. However, the hospital allegedly withheld this information from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s health department for 10 long days, prompting the notice. The hospital has been ordered to urgently explain why legal action should not be taken against it.
The notice states, “The health department of the AMC has established a system for all private hospitals in the city to report details of notifiable diseases, vector-borne cases and other cases in a timely manner. Currently, a significantly high number of cases of human metapneumovirus have been reported in China.
Gujarat govt has also issued guidelines in this regard. On Dec 24, 2024, a two-month-old patient from Dungarpur, Rajasthan, was admitted to your hospital.
The health department was to be informed of this case, but no information was provided until Jan 6. The hospital provided the information on Monday after it was contacted. Thus, a notice has been issued to urgently explain why legal action should not be taken against your hospital for withholding information for 10 days.”
