Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad civic authorities have established a toll-free helpline for passengers to report concerns about BRTS bus drivers’ poor driving and misconduct. Data reveals that between 2021 and 2024, passengers filed 792 complaints regarding driver misconduct, failure to stop at designated stops, and reckless driving.
However, according to information obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) Act, disciplinary action was taken against only one driver during the period.
Atik Saiyed, a resident of Jamalpur, expressed his concerns over the issue and said, “Over 100,000 passengers travel daily using BRTS buses. In the past four years, 792 complaints were made regarding passenger injuries, driver misconduct, and reckless driving, but only one driver was penalised, and no action was taken against contractors.”
He further highlighted that despite passengers lodging complaints, even serious incidents go unaddressed, which has rendered the toll-free service ineffective. He emphasised the need for authorities to address these grievances seriously and implement appropriate disciplinary measures.
