According to the complaint filed on Tuesday, the theft took place on Sep 29 in which valuables, a 12 bore pistol, its 22 rounds, and documents were stolen from their house. The father told police that he discovered the theft on Sep 30. “That evening, he went to put some important documents in the locker kept inside his wardrobe, but was shocked to find the entire safe missing. He searched the house and upon reviewing footage from the society’s CCTV cameras, saw that his own daughter, along with her boyfriend, had stolen it,” states the FIR.
CCTV footage shows the couple carrying the locker in a carton and leaving with it on a two-wheeler. Knowing about the Class 11 student’s involvement, they wanted her to confess. The girl, however, stubbornly maintained that the carton she was seen carrying in the footage had nothing but books. Her consistent denial despite being confronted with proof led the father to file the complaint on Tuesday.
Inspector B T Gohil of Bopal police said, “Her parents questioned her about the theft and also tried to convince her to confess as they had seen the footage. She told her father that she put some books in the carton to read them with her boyfriend. As she did not admit to the theft, her father approached the police.”
Giving further details about the pair, another officer said that the teenager had met the man, a resident of Kankaria, in 2023 at a garba event on the riverfront. They connected on Instagram and after initially chatting on the social media platform, exchanged phone numbers.
Primary investigation has revealed that the man, a college dropout, motivated the girl to steal the safe so that they could spend the money on ‘fun activities’ together, the officer said. The girl even shared detailed information about her father’s schedule with the boyfriend for smooth execution of their plan.
Bopal police registered a complaint of theft and abetment under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the two. The safe has been recovered from the boyfriend.
