Six-laning of SP Ring Road to cost 2.2k cr | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: On Saturday, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) floated two tenders worth Rs 2,200 crore to convert the 76km-long Sardar Patel Ring Road around Ahmedabad city into six lanes. Package 1 includes the tender for converting the 37km stretch of the SP Ring Road in the eastern area into six lanes, while Package 2 involves the conversion of the 39.25km stretch in the western part of the city.Currently, the road is in four lanes.
Additionally, the development of service roads has been planned, with the existing two-lane service road of 34km being upgraded to four lanes, and the existing three-lane service road of 15km being expanded to four lanes.
Auda plans to construct two new three-lane bridges adjacent to the existing bridges over the Sabarmati, near Bhat and Komod. Additionally, three six-lane underpasses are planned at Bhat Circle, Chiloda Circle and Aslali Circle. To facilitate pedestrian crossing, six new foot overbridges will be constructed.
On Feb 18, 2019, the SP Ring Road concessionaire company ARRIL submitted a proposal expressing willingness to spend Rs 200 crore for the expansion without seeking funds from Auda. However, they sought extension of their agreement, which ends on Dec 31, 2026, by an additional three years and six months.
Auda’s board unanimously decided that the concessionaire would bear the Rs 200 crore cost without seeking funds from Auda, but the concession period would not be extended.
Now, tenders have been floated for the six-lane expansion of the SP Ring Road at a cost of Rs 2,200 crore.
