Radio Unity oromotes eco-friendly practices: Govt | Ahmedabad News

SLUG: World Radio Day
Gandhinagar: As World Radio Day is observed on Thursday, Feb 13, on the theme of ‘Radio and Climate Change‘, the state govt said on Wednesday that Radio Unity at Ektanagar, the site of the world’s tallest statue, was instrumental in spreading eco-friendly practices and environment awareness among the local population.
This community radio has dedicated programmes focusing on climate change, conservation efforts, and sustainable tourism, an official statement said. With the Narmada and the eco-sensitive Sardar Patel Zoological Park in its vicinity, the radio station plays a crucial role in educating listeners on preserving natural resources and adopting eco-friendly practices, the statement added.
Inaugurated on Aug 15, 2021, Radio Unity 90FM was designed and set up by Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL). “The station serves as a bridge between local communities and visitors, spreading awareness about heritage, tourism, and national integration under the tagline ‘EK Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’,” the statement said. The radio station has a reach of 20 to 25km.
The statement added that the radio station also inspires women through programmes on empowerment and success stories, encouraging them to pursue their dreams. Small vendors, farmers, and entrepreneurs also feature in the programming, the statement added.
At a conference in Jaipur last year, the community radio service received recognition for its unique approach and structured programming, the statement added.
