Rs 352 crore push to check cybercrime, drug peddling in Gujarat | Ahmedabad News

Gandhinagar: With the aim to set up a strong mechanism to counter the exponential rise in cybercrime and drug peddling cases, the Gujarat govt on Thursday announced that it will set up a cyber centre of excellence for cyber crime (CCECC) and an anti-narcotics task force (ANTF). Presenting the state’s budget for 2025-26, finance minister Kanu Desai said a budgetary allocation of Rs 352 crore was made for these projects.
“With a focus on cyber security and law enforcement, a CCECC will be set up at the state level and cyber forensic units (CFU) will be set up in all districts. An operational unit of the ANTF will be set up to take stringent action against trafficking of narcotics,” Desai said. He added in his budget speech that the govt plans to recruit 14,000 SRP personnel and create 1,390 new posts of traffic police.
Making a total provision of Rs 12,659 crore for the home department, Desai said that Rs 299 crore has been allotted for 1,186 posts under the CCECC. The centre will handle subjects like cyber security and cyber intelligence at the state level. A sum of Rs 23 crore was allotted for the ANTF and Rs 30 crore was allotted to set up Cyber Forensic Units (CFUs) in each district.
About Rs 63 crore will be spent on the purchase of equipment for specialised squads like the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS), quick response team (QRT), state disaster response force and Chetak commandos, said the finance minister.
