Gandhinagar: Concluding the discussion on the 2025-26 budget, state finance minister Kanu Desai said on Friday that he strove to ensure comprehensive development across all sectors.
“The primary goal is to create a prosperous society through effective implementation of the proposed schemes with good governance. The budget focuses on the development of the poor, youth, farmers, and women’s empowerment, collectively referred to as GYAN,” the minister told the assembly.
Claiming that Gujarat’s economy has thrived for the past two decades, Desai said that the state maintained a high growth rate of 8.2%. He added that the state ranks first in governance indicators nationwide, thanks to financial discipline and structural development.
Desai said that between 2012-13 and 2022-23, Gujarat reduced its debt by 4.5%, the highest reduction among major Indian states. This reduction reflects the state’s leadership and strategic economic planning, he added.
The minister said that the state govt allocated sufficient funds for welfare schemes across departments and was committed to increasing expenditure in all areas, including social security.
