RAJKOT: Three medical interns at Bhavnagar medical college were confined, assaulted and subjected to mistreatment by their fellow doctors. The Nilambaug police station in Bhavnagar registered two separate FIRs on Saturday against six accused.
The authorities charged Dr. Milan Kaklotar, Dr. Piyush Chauhan, Dr. Naren Chaudhry, Dr. Man Patel, Dr. Abhiraj Parmar and Dr. Balbhadrasinh under various BNS sections related to kidnapping, wrongful confinement, causing hurt, intimidation and using obscene language.
The medical college confirmed that both accused and victims were completing their mandatory Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) at Sir T hospital following their MBBS. The victims were accommodated in the college’s boys’ hostel.
The victims reported that they had created an Instagram page titled ‘convocation speaks’ for humorous content. However, the accused took offence to this content, leading to their aggressive actions against the three victims.
Complainant Ishan Kotak stated that on March 6 night, after receiving a call from his friend Aakash, he went to meet him. Dr. Bhalbhadarsinh arrived in a car and forced them inside, where Man Patel was present, and a driver known as ‘JD’ was at the wheel.
While driving towards Jwel circle, Bhalbhadra assaulted them. They were taken to a street opposite Aatmij hotel where other accused were waiting. The group allegedly assaulted both victims repeatedly and verbally abused them, accusing them of tarnishing the college’s reputation.
Man Patel compelled Ishan to unlock his mobile phone, captured images from his gallery and threatened to distribute them across various platforms.
Subsequently, they were taken to Aman Joshi’s hostel room where inappropriate behaviour occurred. Joshi filed a separate complaint stating that Dr. Man Patel and Dr. Naren entered his room at 2.15 am while he was asleep. Both assaulted him repeatedly. Ishan and Aakash were also brought to this room. Joshi was forced into an uncomfortable position.
All three victims received treatment at Sir T hospital and submitted a complaint to the medical college dean before approaching the police.
