Student unions rally against GU’s fee increase | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: A fee increase at Gujarat University’s self-financed colleges, including commerce, BBA and BCA programmes, has triggered protests by student unions.
On Tuesday, students from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a demonstration at the GU tower, shouting slogans and demanding a reduction in fees. When ABVP representatives tried to present their concerns to the V-C through a memorandum, they were prevented by police personnel who also detained some members.
A day earlier, members of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) had held a demonstration at the vice chancellor’s residence and were forcefully removed from the premises by the police. The fee increase was authorised during a recent syndicate meeting.
The university’s stance on the fee structure remains uncertain as both student organisations intensify their protests. ABVP leadership has indicated that protests will continue unless the university withdraws the fee increase.
