A Gujarat-cadre IPS officer is under investigation for allegedly slapping a head constable in Delhi

AHMEDABAD: A young Gujarat-cadre IPS officer found himself under scrutiny after he allegedly slapped a head constable (havaldar) in Delhi on Sunday night. According to Delhi Police sources, the said IPS officer, posted as assistant superintendent of police in a politically sensitive district in Saurashtra, reportedly wrote an apology to the Delhi Police head constable following the altercation.
The officer distanced himself from the incident, saying he was not in Delhi at the time of the alleged incident and learned of the episode from his peers. “A friend might have been involved and he may have impersonated me,” he said.
While the IPS officer denied his involvement in the incident, Delhi Police sources stated he was taken to Lajpat Nagar police station after an argument between him and the head constable escalated.
The disagreement reportedly occurred when the officer and a friend were stopped during a late-night police check. The friend, who was allegedly intoxicated, was driving the vehicle. A war of words ensued, and the matter escalated before it reached the police station. The young IPS officer was allowed to leave the police station only when senior officers intervened and not before he reportedly submitted a written apology to the head constable.
Deputy commissioner of police (South-East district) Ravi Kumar Singh was not available for comment on the issue.
