Ahmedabad Civil Hospital receives 4 cadaver organ donations in 24 hours | Ahmedabad News


Ahmedabad: In a matter of 24 hours, Civil Hospital received three cadavers from relatives of patients for organ retrieval and donation. In total, nine organs were retrieved along with four corneas.
In the first instance, a 55-year-old man was admitted to the hospital on March 10 after he sustained severe head injuries from a fall. On Friday, he was declared brain-dead, after which his relatives agreed to donate his kidneys and corneas.
In the second instance, Karshan Bata, 55, a native of Junagadh, was admitted to the hospital after sustaining severe head injuries in a road accident. He was declared brain-dead on Friday, after which his son and wife decided to donate his kidneys and liver.
“In the third instance, Nagin Parmar, 52, a resident of Mehmdabad, sustained a stroke at home on March 9. He was referred to the hospital the same day. Attempts to revive him failed as he was declared brain-dead on Friday. His heart, kidneys, liver, and eyes were retrieved after permission from the family,” said Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of the hospital. “So far, the hospital has received donations of over 600 organs that have given a new lease of life to 582 persons.”
