Ahmedabad: Mirambika School in Naranpura faces allegations of deceiving the education board whilst seeking approval for a self-financed Class 9 in Gujarati medium, simultaneously terminating their existing grant-in-aid programme. The institution, presently running Classes 9 through 12 under grant-in-aid, received authorisation in June 2024 to operate a self-financed Class 9 in Gujarati medium.According to informed sources, the school administration deliberately reduced enrolment in the grant-aided Class 9 to nil, effectively shutting it down, to establish grounds for a self-financed alternative. This action contradicts board guidelines, which explicitly prohibit the establishment of self-financed classes where grant-aided classes already exist in the same medium of instruction. The district education officer (DEO) of Ahmedabad has suggested revoking the approval for the self-financed class. Subsequently, the board issued a formal notice to Mirambika School, requiring justification for maintaining the self-financed class approval. This development has sparked significant concern within educational circles. The school management committee representatives have remained silent on the matter, intensifying the ongoing scrutiny.
