Ahmedabad: In a move to green up urban spaces, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has approved a large-scale tree plantation initiative across 11 plots reserved for gardens. The project will see the plantation of 1.2 lakh trees over 99,000 sq m of land, under the public-private partnership (PPP) model using CSR funds. The Miyawaki method, a dense, fast-growing afforestation technique, will be employed, and various NGOs will carry out the work.As part of the plan, the NGOs will not only plant the trees but also be responsible for maintaining them for three years. Auda’s board cleared the proposal during its meeting on Tuesday.The board also cleared multiple other proposals, including submitting a draft Town Planning (TP) scheme for land in Godhavi’s Knowledge Zone (KZ3) to the state govt. Under the development plan, Auda also approved the consultation proposal for the draft of TP Scheme No. 4 to facilitate the implementation of a 60-foot ring road in Dahegam city. In addition, the board sanctioned an increase in rental charges for its Shela and Dahegam auditorium facilities. At Shela, one shift at the auditorium hall will now cost Rs 50,000, up from Rs 30,000, and the charges will be higher on weekends. It will also attract a deposit of Rs 1 lakh. The rent for multi-purpose and banquet halls in Shela have been raised from Rs 45,000 to Rs 55,000 per shift. Weekend rates will be higher, and a security deposit of Rs 1 lakh will apply. Cleaning and security charges will range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 each, while electricity usage will be charged per unit.
