Ahmedabad: In 2024, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation put up 22 plots for sale in different areas of the city, of which 6 plots were sold through an online auction. The base price for these plots was Rs 867 crore, and they were sold for Rs 937 crore.
Following this success, the AMC is now preparing to auction five plots reserved for schools for the first time in a decade. There are more than 100 plots reserved for school and playground purposes in various TP schemes of Ahmedabad city.

Over the last five years, two plots reserved for schools or other purposes were allocated at market rates. In 2020, a reserved plot for a school in the Gota ward was allocated to an institution. An official from the AMC, on condition of anonymity, said, “Plots reserved for schools are auctioned, involving technical evaluation. These plots are not sold individually. Educational institutions or trusts can purchase these plots through auctions, where the first phase involves technical evaluation, and only qualified institutions can participate in the auction. Inquiries have been received for plots reserved for schools in the western and eastern parts of the city. Therefore, we will auction five plots reserved for schools, and the process has begun.”
Sources indicate that the ‘Shree Leuva Patel Pragati Mandal (Kelavani Dham)’ has requested to allocate a plot reserved for commercial use in Nikol’s TP Scheme No. 110 for educational purposes.
The standing committee approved the proposal to change the plot’s purpose on June 24, 2020. The corporation sought written consent from the organisation regarding compliance with terms and conditions. After receiving consent, the proposal was sent to Auda, which forwarded it to the state govt’s urban development department on Nov 23, 2020.
The state govt issued a notification on Oct 28, 2021, changing the plot’s purpose to educational. On Nov 30, 2021, Auda’s land price fixing committee set the plot price at Rs 70,000 per sq m.
Following a revaluation request by the organisation, the chief minister’s special duty officer ordered Auda to re-evaluate on July 15, 2022. Auda’s committee set the price at Rs 54,147 per sq m on Aug 10, 2022.
The proposal for plot allocation based on revaluation was sent to the state govt on Aug 22, 2022, and approval was received. Consequently, the corporation proposed to allocate approximately 4,717 sq m of land from the final plot number 130 in Nikol-Kathwada TP Scheme No. 110 to the ‘Leuva Patel Pragati Mandal’ for a girls’ hostel on a 99-year lease.
On Feb 2, 2022, the Vidyabharti Gujarat unit wrote to the school board chairman requesting a building in the Paldi area for educational purposes. A resolution was passed in the school board’s general meeting on April 28, 2022, approving a policy for long or short-term allocation of schools.
On May 2, 2022, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the school board chairman and Vidyabharti, Gujarat, adopting the campus of Ellisbridge School No. 6 in Ahmedabad for 15 years, with seven conditions.
The organisation was required to plan for the first five years and then adopt the school for at least 15 years. A condition was set to admit 20% of students from the school board in Class 1. An administrative structure for school management was established, involving representatives from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the school board, and Vidyabharti, Gujarat . Additionally, a plot in Gota was allocated to an educational institution without auction in 2020.

Ahmedabad: On Aug 8, 2024, the standing committee decided to send a proposal to the state govt to permanently allocate a playground plot to Bodakdev’s Prakash School.
The final decision will be made by the state govt. The town planning act does not provide for permanent allocation of playground plots, but if the state govt amends the land disposal policy and grants approval, it will clear the way for permanent allocation of playground plots to 14 schools in Ahmedabad’s western region, including Prakash School.
In May 2023, the standing committee rejected a proposal to allocate the playground plot to Prakash School on a permanent lease. At that time, Auda sold 14 plots for school purposes in areas adjoining Ahmedabad city, including Bodakdev, Vejalpur, Thaltej, Ghatlodia, and Memnagar, and leased the playground plots adjacent to these schools with certain conditions.
