Gandhinagar: As part of the statewide crackdown to remove encroachments on govt land, the revenue department since Sep 2024 reclaimed possession of 3,047 hectares, valued at Rs 2,097 crore according to jantri rates.However, the market value of these land parcels is pegged at over Rs 10,000 crore.Over the past few months, the govt conducted a major drive to demolish illegal constructions around Chandola Lake in Ahmedabad, Mansa in Gandhinagar district, Devbhumi Dwarka, Surat, and other cities and towns. Govt officials said, “According to prevailing jantri rates, the freed govt land is valued at Rs 2,047 crore, but its market value is over Rs 10,000 crore.”A key source in the state revenue department stated that since Sep 2024, the govt started a campaign across all districts to remove encroachments on its land. By Jan 2025, land with a Rs 883 crore jantri value was freed, said sources.”Between Jan and March this year, an additional Rs 909 crore jantri worth of govt land was cleared of encroachments. In April, encroachment on land with a jantri value of Rs 305 crore was removed,” said sources.According to official data, the highest area of land cleared of encroachments was in Ahmedabad district, where land with a jantri value of Rs 154 crore was freed. In Vadodara, land with a jantri value of Rs 95 crore was cleared, followed by land worth Rs 20 crore in Junagadh and Rs 10 crore in Porbandar district.Officials said that all district collectors have been directed by the additional chief secretary of the revenue department to check the status of govt lands in their jurisdictions and ensure it is free from any encroachment through the use of technology and human intervention. Sources informed that the govt will monitor the progress of various districts in removing encroachments on govt land.
