Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board received 318 applications for new private schools for the academic year 2025-26, marking a significant decrease from the previous year’s 426 applications.
The current applications include 183 proposals for secondary schools and 135 for higher secondary institutions.
The online application process began on Dec 20, with institutions given until Jan 19 to submit their applications along with the required documentation. The board later extended the deadline to Jan 31, providing a total window of 32 days for institutions to apply for establishing new Class 9 and Class 11 schools.
The board’s executive committee is scheduled to meet this month to review these applications. Following the review process, provisional approvals will be granted to qualifying institutions. This year’s 25% decline in applications, showing 108 fewer proposals compared to last year, represents a notable shift in private school expansion plans across the state.
