54 whale sharks rescued in 2 years: Govt
Gandhinagar: The state govt said in the assembly on Tuesday that in the past two years (2023-2024), 54 whale sharks were rescued from Gujarat coast. While 31 whale sharks were saved in 2023, 23 were rescued in 2024. The govt said that a sum of Rs 12.60 lakh was provided to fishermen as compensation for the damages to their nets while releasing the whale sharks. The project to conserve whale sharks was launched in 2006, the govt added.
Closure notices to 108 units for polluting Sabarmati
Gandhinagar: The state govt informed the assembly on Tuesday that closure notices were issued to 108 units for releasing industrial effluents into the Sabarmati river. In response to a question by Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar, the govt said that the electricity connections of all the 108 units were disconnected as part of action by the authorities.
Rs 10 crore for Heritage Restoration
Gandhinagar: The state govt said in the assembly on Tuesday that Rs 10 crore will be spent on “heritage restoration” of LD Engineering College and Lakhdhirji Engineering College at Morbi. The Lakhdhirji Engineering College was constructed in 1881 while the LD Engineering College was set up in 1948. Minister Rushikesh Patel said in the assembly that the govt is keen on preserving all heritage structures.
6 cases of illegal sale of Waqf properties: Govt
Gandhinagar: In response to a question by Congress MLA Imran Khedawala, the govt said in the assembly on Tuesday that in the past two years, six cases were filed in Bharuch district for illegal sale of Waqf properties. In addition, 24 instances of irregularities in lease agreements were also observed by the Waqf Board. The govt said that the Waqf Board registered FIRs against 8 persons in this connection.
197 liquor permits issued in Banaskantha
Gandhinagar: The state govt said in the assembly that a total of 197 certificates were issued by the Banaskantha civil hospital for liquor permits in the past two years ending January 31, 2025. In response to a question by MLA Kanti Kharadi, the govt said that two applications for liquor permit certificates are pending in the Banaskantha civil hospital.
