Ahmedabad: An attempted theft at a UCO Bank ATM in Odhav was reported after significant damage was discovered to the machine early Saturday morning. The complaint was filed by Viral Parikh, 31, the manager of the UCO Bank branch located at Global Business Park on Odhav Ring Road.
Parikh stated in his FIR that he closed the bank as usual at 6pm on May 2. However, when he returned the next morning around 10am, he noticed that the ATM room’s door was open. Upon inspection, he found that the ATM machine was damaged. The electronic keypad and internal systems of the machine were broken, the digital lock of the vault was tampered with, and the iron front panel was forcefully removed.
Fortunately, no cash was stolen as the ATM cash trays remained untouched. CCTV footage revealed an unidentified person attempting to break into the ATM during the night. The bank’s maintenance agency later assessed that electronic components worth nearly Rs 2 lakh were damaged.
The bank authorities advised Parikh to report the incident officially. A case has been registered against unknown persons, and police are investigating based on CCTV footage and other evidence from the scene.
