Ahmedabad: Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Tuesday seized 500kg of Tramadol from an industrial unit in Dholka of Ahmedabad district.
On Jan 24, acting on a tip-off, a Gujarat ATS team raided Greenlife Industries in Neja village, Khambhat taluka of Anand district. During the raid, 107kg of the illegal drug Alprazolam worth Rs 107 crore and Rs 30 lakh in cash were seized. Six suspects were arrested, and a case was registered with Gujarat ATS.
During the investigation, one of the arrested suspects, Ranjit Dabhi, revealed that 500kg of illegal Tramadol was hidden in Godown No. 54 of Devam Industries Estate, Dholka. Acting on this information, an ATS team raided the unit, which resulted in the seizure of 500kg of Tramadol, valued at around Rs 40 crore, 49,800 packing boxes worth Rs 1 lakh, and six packaging foil rolls worth Rs 60,000, said a release from the Gujarat ATS.
Though originally intended for use as pain medication, the production and sale of Tramadol are regulated strictly as it can be misused as a psychotropic drug, added the release. It is categorised as a psychotropic substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and its unauthorised production or sale is an offence. Investigation into the source of the drug was ongoing.
