Ahmedabad: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday accused the BJP and Congress of working in close collusion in Gujarat. Speaking at a function in the city, he expressed confidence that his party would come to power in the 2027 assembly elections.Kejriwal hailed Gopal Italia’s victory in the Visavadar bypoll as a “semi-final win,” saying the people of the state now have a credible alternative in the form of AAP. He also formally launched the party’s statewide membership drive aimed at strengthening the organisation ahead of the next assembly elections in Gujarat.“It was not a coincidence that Italia’s victory margin was three times that of the previous AAP MLA who won from the seat in 2022. It is often seen that the ruling party wins a byelection. Though the BJP tried every trick in the book, Gopal Italia emerged victorious. God is trying to say something to all of us,” Kejriwal told party workers. He added that while the BJP and Congress have taken turns in power in Gujarat for decades, it is now time for change. “The wheel of time has turned, and it is time for the BJP to go. A new party—honest and patriotic—will come to power in 2027. AAP will come to power and work for the people,” he asserted.
