Gandhinagar: The BJP launched the Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Samman Abhiyan on Saturday with a press conference at its state headquarters, Kamalam. The event was chaired by Gujarat BJP president and Union minister of water resources, C R Paatil, and attended by BJP National Scheduled Castes Morcha president Lal Singh Arya and state general secretary (organisation) Ratnakar.
Lal Singh Arya asserted that the BJP is the only political party to have officially included Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary in its national calendar. “The Congress has a long history of disrespecting Babasaheb Ambedkar, despite his monumental role in framing the Constitution and uplifting Dalits and the marginalised,” he said.
Arya said the nationwide programme will begin on April 13 with cleanliness drives at sites bearing Ambedkar’s statues. On April 14, the BJP will hold lamp-lighting ceremonies and floral tributes at every booth, along with group readings of the Constitution’s Preamble.
From April 15 to 25, intellectual seminars will be organised in 1,029 districts, spotlighting how Congress allegedly undermined Ambedkar and highlighting BJP-led initiatives under former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
