Ahmedabad: BJP MLA from Ellisbridge constituency, Amit Shah, alleged that illegal shops were constructed on a municipal school ground near Kanch mosque in Jamalpur area of the city. Shah raised the issue during the meeting of the coordination committee comprising local MPs and MLAs. The committee was chaired by Ahmedabad municipal commissioner M Thennarasan.
Shah insisted on the immediate demolition of the illegal shops. He also offered to resign from his position if his claims were proven false. He criticised municipal officials for their inaction and called for their dismissal and subsequent legal proceedings.
“There was an Urdu school near the Kanch mosque in Jamalpur. The school was damaged during the 2001 earthquake and was restarted after repairs. The students were shifted to another school, and this school was closed. On this land, a local history-sheeter constructed 10 shops, which are rented out,” Shah alleged.
“A builder has set up offices in two of the shops where political events are held. Local citizens have also filed complaints against this illegal construction,” he added.
According to Shah, there was another Urdu school where 400 girl students studied, but it gradually turned into ruins. “Currently, construction of a complex and flats has started at this site. Trees have been cut down. The illegal construction should be removed, the land reclaimed, and police complaints filed against the responsible civic officials,” Shah said at the meeting.
