Ahmedabad: As police seem busy in bandobust duty, chain snatchers seem to have been given a free rein, with three incidents of chain snatching — two in Chandkheda and one in the Maninagar area — reported on Saturday.
In the first case, Shobha Dhamalekar (57), a native of Belgaum, Karnataka, came to Chandkheda to attend a relative’s wedding. At around 12:45pm on Saturday, while she was walking near the old Balaji Mandir area close to Mahavir Flats on New CG Road, two men on a sports motorcycle snatched her gold necklace worth Rs 2,10,000 and fled the scene. Dhamalekar lodged a complaint of snatching with Chandkheda Police.
In the second incident, Raju Solanki (60), a resident of Dhruv Darshan Tenement in Chandkheda, was walking near Shyam Kutir Flats on the IOC Road around 6:30am on Saturday. Two men on a motorcycle targeted him, snatching a gold chain valued at Rs 60,000 before speeding away. Solanki also filed a complaint of snatching with Chandkheda Police.
In the third incident, another senior citizen, Kamini Bhatt, a resident of Samruddhi Apartment in Dakshini Society of Maninagar, fell prey to the crime on Jan 9. The incident occurred around 11:30am when Bhatt was standing near a vegetable cart outside the gate of her residential society. A man on a motorcycle approached her and swiftly snatched her gold chain, valued at Rs 70,000, before fleeing the scene. The complaint was filed at the Maninagar Police Station on Saturday. tnn
