The city witnessed multiple severe RTAs last year with multiple victims. EMRI officials also attributed the rise in emergency calls, including RTAs, to alert citizens. “There is maturity among callers, and prank calls or false calls have decreased relatively over the years. Thus, there is a high number of patients who could be saved in the golden hour — especially in cases of RTAs where brain and spine injuries are common — by taking them to hospital,” said a senior official. For the city, the overall rise in calls to the 108 helpline was 17%, whereas for Gujarat, the rise was 8%. The services also introduced more ambulances last year, increasing the coverage area and reducing response time.
Ahmedabad and Gujarat saw relatively different patterns in emergency cases. For Gujarat, pregnancy-related emergencies remained at the top in 2024, followed by abdominal pain, vehicular trauma, non-vehicular trauma, breathing problems, cardiac issues, and high fever.
In Ahmedabad, the highest calls were related to abdominal pain, followed by non-vehicular trauma, breathing problems, vehicular trauma, pregnancy-related cases, cardiac issues, and high fever.
Experts pointed out that due to higher population concentration and the number of ambulances deployed, the cases from four major cities — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot — are relatively higher compared to overall state figures.
