SULG: REVIEW MEETINGGandhinagar: With heavy rains lashing several parts of Gujarat, chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the extent of damage to roads, highways, and bridges across the state. He directed officials to begin immediate repair work, without waiting for the rains to subside.“In cases where the damage has occurred within the defect liability period, the responsibility must be fixed on the contractor, and there should be no compromise on the quality of work,” the CM stated, according to an official release.The rains have severely impacted rural roads, state highways, and national highways. Commissioners of all municipal corporations joined the meeting via video conference. The CM instructed them to prioritize road repairs and address waterlogging on a war footing.Patel emphasized the need for coordinated action among the roads and buildings (R&B) department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), panchayat department, and municipal corporations. He said repair work should begin promptly once intimation is received from the state’s 24×7 control room in Gandhinagar.During the meeting, NHAI officials informed that of the 83 km of national highways damaged this monsoon, repairs on 58 km have already been completed, and work on the remaining 25 km is underway.
