Surat : The business of renting accommodation under various schemes created in the Surat Municipal Corporation area is going on in full swing. The scourge of renting government housing in Surat is increasing due to which the real beneficiaries of the housing are in dire straits. Despite the government’s no-rent rules for seven years, the real beneficiaries are being defrauded. At present, there have been complaints about half of the houses being rented out in Surat’s Bhimrad Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Government has started Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in the year 2015 along with Gujarat Government has also started Chief Minister Awas Yojana. Under this scheme, housing for poor-middle class people has been constructed in all areas of Surat. The municipality and the government have built housing for people to get a home but some beneficiaries are scamming by renting instead of owning the housing.

However, to prevent such scams, there is a condition that the good beneficiaries should not rent or sell for seven years after getting the housing. But in most places these conditions are being violated. At present, housing is being constructed under various schemes by the municipality and the government to provide housing to the people. There have been complaints about half of the houses being rented out in Surat’s Bhimrad Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The municipality of this accommodation has presented everywhere including municipality, chief minister, home minister. Beneficiaries have complained that out of 168 beneficiaries, 70 houses have been rented out due to which genuine beneficiaries are facing hardship. Residents of the accommodation have complained that when the residents complain about the tenancy, the illegal tenants threaten them. The housing is inhabited by middle class people so this problem is big for them hence there is a demand to take action against illegal tenants.
