Ahmedabad: Nearly 18 months after a team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) raided a hukkah bar in Shilaj, the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) registered an FIR against its owner on Saturday.
In the FIR with the DCB, SOG sub-inspector Z S Shaikh said that cops, on the night of July 21, 2023, received a tip-off that a hukkah bar was being illegally run on Thaltej-Shilaj Road.
An SOG team was dispatched to the spot where the hukkah bar owner, Dhruv Brahmbhatt, 24, a resident of Thaltej, told cops that he was running the hukkah bar with his partner, Jayesh Desai, a resident of Vastrapur.
The FIR stated that there were six customers present in the hukkah bar at the time of the raid. Cops seized seven hukkahs from the spot and some packets of tobacco and molasses.
The FIR stated that the seized articles were sent for forensic examination, and the report from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) ascertained the presence of nicotine in high quantity.
The FIR did not mention when the report was received and why there was a delay in filing the FIR.
DCB police registered a complaint against Brahmbhatt and Desai under the charges of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act and began an investigation.
The complainant of the case was also not available for his comments on the delayed FIR.
