Discontent among principals over VC’s announcement

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat University vice-chancellor’s recent announcement to reopen admissions for vacant positions in arts, commerce, and science colleges has sparked controversy. The announcement, made without prior consultation with college principals, has caused unrest among the institutional heads, sources said. Following the completion of the initial phase of admissions, the university started a second round of admissions, adhering to the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive for biannual student intake. However, this crucial decision excluded input from the principals of participating colleges.
Several college administrators voiced concerns about implementing mid-year admissions. “The VC and university authorities neither organised discussions nor conducted meetings regarding this matter. Such major decisions usually require academic council and syndicate approval, alongside proper communication with principals who oversee student education post-enrolment. The current situation lacks these procedural steps,” said an administrator.
