Ahmedabad: To rid road users of frequent traffic snarls at busy junctions, the draft AMC budget has also proposed a feasibility study of an elevated corridor from Nehrunagar to SG Road, another from Shyamal to Ghuma and a second bridge at IIMA crossroads parallel to the BRTS corridor. It has also included a feasibility study for underbridges or flyovers on the Sardar Patel Ring Road. Additionally, a comprehensive survey of the traffic junction will be carried out by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI). The last survey of the junction was done by CRRI in 2011-12.
AMC officials said the civic body proposed two different studies for an elevated corridor from Shyamal to SG Road, further connecting Bopal Vakil Saheb bridge and extending up to Ghuma. The second elevated corridor was proposed from Nehrunagar to SG Road.
However, the only hindrance would be the area near the Vakil Saheb bridge as there are high-rises on both sides of the road. At the IIMA crossroads, where people usually wait for more than 180 seconds during normal hours and for at least 360 seconds during peak hours, the authorities will study the feasibility of a flyover or an underpass parallel to the BRTS corridor.
The AMC also proposed another wing at the Shahibaugh underbridge, which will enable vehicles coming from Subhash Bridge to directly enter the bridge. At present, one has to take a U-turn to get onto the bridge.
Additionally, the Akbarnagar underbridge will have a theme-based mural design along with a roof and decorative lighting.
The AMC even proposed bridges on a cost-sharing basis with the railways. It proposed widening of the Chimanbhai Patel bridge, and the reconstruction of Sarangpur and Kalupur overbridges by the Rail Land Development Authority. The civic body approved a thorough flyover connecting Sanand Crossroads to Ahmedabad-Botad railway level crossing.
