Ahmedabad: A 25-year-old man, son of a former Madhya Pradesh MLA, was arrested for allegedly snatching a gold chain from a woman in Ahmedabad city, police said on Friday. After his arrest, the man told cops that he had cut off ties with his family.
The accused was identified as Pradyumn Singh Chandrawat (25). He is the son of BJP leader and former MLA Vijendra Singh Chandrawat. Police said that the accused committed the crime to fulfil the needs of his girlfriend as he earned Rs 14,000 per month.
Vijendra Singh was elected as an MLA from the Manasa Assembly constituency in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh in 2008. At that time, he was a member of the Congress party and won the election on a Congress ticket. However, later, he left Congress along with Jyotiraditya Scindia and joined the BJP. Police said that Pradyumn Singh hailed from Malaheda village in Neemuch and lived at a PG accommodation in the Thaltej area .
“After his arrest, Pradyumn Singh told us that he cut off relations with his family,” inspector JS Kandoria of Ghatlodia police said. The accused allegedly followed the woman on Gurukul Road and attempted to snatch her gold chain, and when it did not break, he used a wire cutter, police said. The incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed at a nearby building.
