The US Justice Department Friday (Nov 8) made charges public in a case regarding a thwarted attempt by Iran to kill Donald Trump, the winner of the US 2024 presidential elections.
According to an official complaint filed with Manhattan federal court, an agent in US was allegedly instructed by an Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard official to hatch a plan to kill the Republican leader past September.
The man has been identified as Farjad Shakeri. He was allegedly ordered by the Iranian official that if he fails to formulate a plan to kill Trump by September, they would have to delay it until the elections happen.
Shakeri reportedly told US federal investigative agency FBI that Iran anticipated Trump would lose the elections, which would make it easier for the Shi’ite nation to assassinate the GOP leader.
The plot has been unsealed by the Justice Department days after Trump defeated Democratic rival Kamala Harris in polls mired by foreign interference, especially by nations like Iran and China.
