Fee hike triggers student protests at Gujarat University | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: A fee increase at Gujarat University’s self-financed colleges, including commerce, BBA and BCA programmes, has triggered protests by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). Despite prior appeals, the administration has not reduced the fees, leading to a demonstration at the vice chancellor’s residence on Monday.
The university’s syndicate meeting justified the fee rise, citing a long period without adjustments. NSUI activists, who contest the decision and demand a reversal, say their earlier petition for reconsideration was ignored. They warned of escalating protests if the V-C fails to address the issue. The administration’s inaction has fuelled student anger.
NSUI activists rallied at the V-C’s residence, drawing numerous student protesters. Police intervened, detaining activists before they could encircle the residence. A confrontation ensued, and police forcefully removed the protesters. The students have vowed to continue and intensify their campaign if the administration does not implement fee reductions in the coming days.
