Ahmedabad: A man was assaulted and his shop in Gurukul Road area ransacked by four people allegedly over a salary dispute on Monday night. The incident took place at a garment store in Oxford Tower run by the 49-year-old.In his complaint with Anandnagar police, the shop owner said he had employed a man as assistant around 20 days ago but decided to sack him due to his unprofessional behaviour, which included frequent smoking inside the premises.The assistant had worked for around 15 days, and Rs 3,000 in salary was yet to be paid.On Monday, the assistant’s father came to the shop to collect the dues, but the owner reportedly said he would call him later as there had been no sales that day. Later in the evening, the father returned without notice and left after an argument. He came back again at around 8.30pm, this time with his wife, another son, and brother-in-law.The four verbally abused the shop owner and demanded the money. When the owner again asked them to collect it the next day, the assistant’s mother allegedly took three mobile phones and a cash bag containing approximately Rs 1.9 lakh from the counter. During the confrontation, the brother-in-law struck the owner on the shoulder with a metal pipe and the son hit him on the forehead with a sandwich maker that was lying in the shop. The son also allegedly attempted attacking with a knife, but the complainant was rescued by neighbouring shopkeepers.The attackers also damaged shop items. The accused left before police arrived. The shop owner was taken in an ambulance to a hospital, where he received stitches to this wounds.Anandnagar police have registered a complaint of causing hurt and criminal intimidation against four persons.
