He is among the eight youths from Mumbai and different cities of Gujarat who took diksha on Thursday under the aegis of Acharya Nityasensurishwarji. These qualified youths – from engineers to chartered accounting students – spent years with the Jain monks or prepared for the journey by performing penance.
A setting, Atmoddhar, was created on the Sabarmati Riverfront for the occasion. Acharya Nityasensurishwar said that over 100 have taken diksha in mass diksha events in the past eight years. “It is heartening to see these youths walk on the path of moksha and religion. It is not easy at any age, and all these youths underwent rigorous preparations for the same,” he said.
Punit Adani, 23, a resident of South Bombay, cleared PE II of the chartered accountancy (CA) course and completed his BCom from KC College in Mumbai. The son of a diamond broker, he also worked at BKC while preparing for the CA final. “In 2021, one of his close friends took diksha and he got interested in the process. He stayed with the monk and also tried to emulate their lifestyle. It changed his outlook towards life,” said a close relative.
Yash Majani, 21, is the son of a textile trader and a footballer who got selected for the Gujarat team. He had participated in the national selection camps with a record of 12 goals. A native of Surat, Majani’s turning point came when he mastered his anger that had long defined him. The penances during Paryushan helped him calm his mind, and he decided to become the first from his family to take diksha. He even worked in the diamond market for a while, said his relatives.
Another youth with a CA background is Vitrag Morakhiya, 24, who completed his PE II course and is preparing for the final. His five cousins also took diksha earlier, which became a motivating factor for him. His sisters took diksha about four years ago. Adish Surana, 22, is a Symbiosis University graduate in economics. A district topper in Class 10, Adish had been preparing for diksha for nearly a decade by frequently living in gurukuls and with Jain monks. The mumukshu also included cousins Khushi and Aangi Ballu from Mumbai.
