Gandhinagar: The state govt on Tuesday sanctioned a sum of Rs 1,003 crore for the redevelopment of Phase 2 of the Kharicut canal, which passes through Ahmedabad city. The project will be implemented by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
Under Phase 2 of the project, the AMC will undertake the redevelopment of the existing canal in stretches from S P Ring Road to Naroda Crematorium, Vinzol Canal to Avkar Hall at Ghodasar, Avkar Hall to Vatva Gam, and from Vatva Gam to S P Ring Road.
The project includes the construction of RCC stormwater box structures, road and footpath development, retaining walls, water supply pipelines, irrigation structures, stormwater extensions and sewer systems, an official statement said.
In the first phase of the Kharicut canal redevelopment, 80% of development work was completed over a length of 12.75km. A sum of Rs 700 crore was spent from the allocated Rs 1,338 crore for Phase 1, the statement added. A sum of Rs 1,338 crore was earlier allocated for Phase 1 of the project. Works were undertaken from Naroda Crematorium to Vinzol in the first phase, the statement said.
