Govt sets growth targets for state’s secondary, tertiary sectors | Ahmedabad News


Gandhinagar: The state govt has set new targets to increase workforce in the secondary and tertiary sectors by 2030 with plans to announce various schemes in the forthcoming budget.
The govt, at the recent chintan shibir at Somnath, deliberated on various aspects to enhance substantial employment in Gujarat. It established targets to increase the secondary sector workforce from the present 32% to 36% and tertiary from 27% to 34% by 2030, sources said. The core group at chintan shibir, spearheaded by Mamta Verma, principal secretary, industry and mines department, presented numerous recommendations for bolstering employment opportunities in the state.
The secondary sector encompasses manufacturing, construction and processing industries that utilise resources from the primary sector. The tertiary sector comprises service providers including entertainment, tourism, financial institutions and retail establishments.
The administration has resolved to increase ITI seats from the current 1 lakh to 2 lakh annually, while expanding diploma, degree and post-graduation courses from 4 to 6 lakh yearly. Under novel skill development initiatives, the govt aspires to train 5 lakh to 8 lakh new workforce participants annually, with an overall yearly target of preparing 10 lakh to 16 lakh individuals, they said.
The sources added, Gujarat’s GSDP currently stands at $250 million, and is projected to reach $1,000 million by 2030 and $3,500 million by 2047.
